My absolute favorite place to visit in the Northwoods is the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park located directly on Lake Superior. It's only a 2 hour drive from our resort in Minocqua, WI and makes for an excellent day of adventure.
The picture above shows my friend and I at the Lake of the Clouds which boasts miles of sandy beaches with endless shoreline changes. It's perfect for searching for colored beach glass and tumbled crystals. As a part of the Porcupine Mountains, it has over 87 miles of trails and literally hundreds of beautiful waterfalls throughout its almost 60,000 acre park.
If you choose to stay at Nitschke's Northern Resort any time of the year, I highly recommend you pack up a lunch, put on your hiking shoes (or snow shoes if it's winter time) and take an adventure up north to the Porcupine Mountains and Lake Superior. It truly is an unforgettable scenic beauty!
