While our resort is most popular during the summer months, we argue that Minocqua in the fall, might be the best time to visit.

Enjoy the beautiful fall foliage

Oranges, reds, yellows and greens paint the tree lined lakes with the most stunning display of leaf colors in the world. Hop on the pontoon, stroll along in delightful silence, and kick back for the day. Cozy up with a blanket and a cup of coffee on the porch in the early morning and enjoy the serenity and peace that Lake Minocqua has to offer. Book a stay in our cozy cabins, located directly on Lake Minocqua, and enjoy all the color bursting from outside your windows.

Take a Colorama tour

Enjoy driving through scenic, winding roads that showcase the best fall foliage throughout the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Browse the routes established on rustic roads that make up the Colorama tours, mapped out for those ready to take the beautiful trip. The leaves are at their peak colors of radiant reds and glowing oranges during the last two weeks of September and the first two weeks of October so try to time your visit within that window for the most breathtaking roadtrip scenery. Stop at our local coffee shop for some pumpkin spice lattes before heading out on your scenic adventure.

Enjoy a restaurant for every occasion

Make a reservation for two and dine in style at the Northwoods Supper Club. Try the prime rib or get the Canadian lobster roll. Take advantage of the picturesque views from The Boathouse as you dine on the waters of Lake Minocqua whether you’re downstairs listening to the live piano music, enjoying the vast beer selection upstairs in the historic bar, or enjoying a casual meal dockside. Make sure to try the cheese curds and shrimp tacos. If you just feel like staying in, simply order pizza from the Monical's. It's the best is town!

Take advantage of the hiking trails

With over 600 miles of trails throughout the Minocqua area, trail blazers have ample opportunity to get outdoors for some fresh air and exploring. If you’re adventurous enough, you can venture out to one of the many breathtaking waterfalls in the area or sign up for an ATV trail tour. Feeling like staying closer to the cabin? Hop on the Bearskin Trail, an 18 mile, level, granite hiking trail that leads to downtown Minocqua. Depending on the time of day, you may spot some deer, chipmunks, and turtles on your way.

Visit during the local fall festival

Perhaps Minocqua’s most famous fall festival is, you guessed it, Beef-a-Rama! Held the last Saturday in September, this cow-filled, silly dressed, shop and eat 'till you drop, music and beer festival is a must see! Enjoy blue-ribbon, winning beef cooked any way you like it, partake in a 5 or 10 K, browse the Prime Choice craft fair or jam out with local bands. Watch as locals participate in the roast cook-off, walk by in ridiculous cow costumers and show off their new finds. Plan your trip, stay for the weekend, and have a blast at Beef-a-Rama.

Whether it’s a fishing trip, romantic getaway, or a ladies-only vacation, Minocqua, Wisconsin is the perfect destination in the fall and Nitschke's Northern Resort is the best place for home-style accommodations. Unplug and enjoy the vast waters of Lake Minocqua, the colorful leaves, and brisk autumn air as you take a much needed respite from the real world.
