July in Minocqua is pure summer magic—warm lake breezes, long sunny days, and outdoor adventures waiting at every turn.

Whether you’re vacationing with toddlers, teens, grandparents, or a mix of all three, Nitschke’s Northern Resort offers the perfect setting to create unforgettable family memories.

From laid-back mornings by the water to action-packed afternoons on the trail, here’s how to make the most of your July getaway, no matter your age or energy level.

For the Littlest Explorers: Splash, Dig, and Play

Young children will love the private sandy beach, where they can dig, build sandcastles, and wade safely in the shallows. The playground and sand near the cabins offer more fun between dips in the lake, and parents can relax nearby with peace of mind.

Pro tip: Pack water shoes, snacks, and a wide-brimmed hat to keep little ones cool and comfortable during playtime.

For School-Age Kids: Fish, Paddle, and Ride

School-age kids are at the perfect age for trying new things—like casting their first line off the dock or learning how to paddle a kayak. The Minocqua chain-of-lakes offers calm waters ideal for beginner fishing and boating. The resort also connects directly to the Bearskin State Trail, which is great for family bike rides and wildlife spotting.

A short bike ride or drive into town can also be a fun mini-adventure to grab ice cream, check out the shops, or catch one of Minocqua’s summer events.

For Teens and Young Adults: Adventure, Freedom, and Fun

Older kids and teens can enjoy a bit more independence while still staying close to the action. Let them burn energy playing badminton or volleyball on the resort courts, or give them the reins to plan a day of boating, tubing, or stand-up paddleboarding.

For teens who love a challenge, a longer hike or a multi-hour bike ride on the Bearskin Trail can be a great way to explore the Northwoods. And in the evening, gathering for a group campfire is the perfect screen-free way to reconnect.

For Adults: Rest, Recharge, and Reconnect

Whether you’re here as a couple, solo, or wrangling a full family crew, July at Northern Resort is a chance to breathe deep and truly unwind. Relax with coffee in the cabin sunroom or screened porch, take a peaceful boat ride across the lake, or enjoy a lakeside picnic lunch.

With Wi-Fi and Roku Smart TVs in the cabins, you can stay connected—or unplug completely and embrace that much-needed Northwoods reset.

For Grandparents: Lakeside Leisure and Generational Fun

Multi-generational travel is a big part of the Northern Resort experience—many families have been visiting for decades. Grandparents will love the comfort of fully furnished cabins, the ease of lakeside access, and the joy of watching their grandkids embrace the great outdoors.

Whether it’s teaching the next generation how to fish, sharing stories around the campfire, or simply relaxing on the porch with a glass of lemonade, there’s no shortage of heartwarming moments.

Tips for a Smooth Multi-Generational Vacation

  • Choose the right cabin: With 21 cabins of various sizes (3 to 5 bedrooms), it’s easy to find one—or a few—that fits your family’s needs.

  • Plan shared meals: Use the full kitchens or outdoor grills for family-style dinners.

  • Mix active time with downtime: Let the kids roam, while adults sneak in a nap or lakeside read.

  • Capture the memories: Bring a camera or assign someone as the “trip photographer” for those frame-worthy moments.

We have been coming to the resort since 2002. We have made SO many memories there through the years… fishing, big fish/small fish contest, playing on the lake, biking, hammocking, relaxing. Everyone looks forward to that week, it’s definitely our favorite week of the year!
